China Tourist Visa (L Visa)

The L Visa is a short-term visa that allows foreign nationals to enter China for tourism, sightseeing, or visiting family and friends. It does not permit any form of paid work or study.

Process

  • Begin by preparing your passport, which must be valid for at least six months and have blank visa pages.
  • Then, complete the China Visa Application Form (Form V.2013) online and print a signed copy.
  • Gather supporting documents including a recent passport-size photograph, round-trip flight bookings, hotel reservations, and an invitation letter if visiting friends or family.
  • Submit your application in person to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Visa Application Center (CVASC) along with your documents and pay the visa fee, which varies depending on your nationality and processing time.
  • After submission, wait for visa processing, which generally takes 4 to 7 working days; once approved, your visa will be affixed to your passport, allowing single or multiple entries depending on the type requested.

China Student Visa (X Visa)

The X Visa is issued to foreign students who intend to study in China. There are two subtypes: X1 for long-term studies over 180 days, and X2 for short-term studies less than 180 days.

Process

  • Start by applying to and receiving an admission notice from a recognized Chinese university or educational institution.
  • Once accepted, the institution will provide you with a JW201 or JW202 form (Visa Application for Study in China), which is mandatory for the visa application.
  • Prepare the required documents including your passport, admission letter, completed visa application form, passport-sized photo, and JW form.
  • Submit your application to the nearest Chinese Embassy or Visa Application Center along with the visa fee.
  • Once approved, the visa will be affixed to your passport.
  • If you are entering on an X1 visa, you must register at the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) within 30 days of arrival to obtain a Temporary Residence Permit that covers your full study period.
