France Tourist Visa (Short-Stay Schengen Visa – Type C)

The France Tourist Visa, officially known as the Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), allows individuals to enter France and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for tourism, leisure, or visiting friends and family.

Process

  • Begin by confirming that your nationality requires a visa to enter France for tourism or short visits.
  • Next, complete the France-Visas application form online and schedule an appointment at your nearest French consulate or designated visa application center.
  • Prepare your documents, including a valid passport, two recent passport-size photos, confirmed round-trip flight tickets, hotel reservations or accommodation proof, a detailed travel itinerary, and financial proof such as recent bank statements.
  • Also include travel insurance with a minimum coverage of €30,000 valid throughout the Schengen area.
  • On the day of your appointment, submit your documents, pay the visa fee (typically €80), and provide biometric data (photo and fingerprints).
  • Once submitted, the application is processed within 15 calendar days in most cases, after which you will receive your visa sticker in your passport.

France Student Visa (Long-Stay Visa – VLS-TS)

The Long-Stay Student Visa (VLS-TS) is required for international students who wish to study in France for more than 90 days. This visa allows full-time study and part-time work rights and serves as a residence permit after validation.

Process

  • Start by applying to and securing admission from a French institution accredited by the Ministry of Higher Education.
  • Once accepted, obtain your admission letter and register on the Études en France portal (for countries where it applies) to initiate the visa process.
  • Prepare all supporting documents including your passport, completed visa application form, letter of admission, proof of accommodation in France, financial proof demonstrating a minimum of €615 per month, proof of medical insurance, and academic transcripts.
  • Schedule an appointment at the French consulate or visa application center, submit your documents, and pay the visa fee of approximately €99.
  • If your application is approved, your passport will be returned with the VLS-TS visa affixed, typically valid for 12 months.
  • Within 3 months of arrival in France, you must validate your visa online with the French Immigration and Integration Office (OFII), which then serves as your residence permit for the duration of your studies.
