Study, Work, Live in Germany

Germany is one of Europe’s most popular destinations for travelers, students, and skilled professionals. Whether you’re visiting for tourism, enrolling at a German university, or starting a new job, the country offers structured visa pathways that ensure a legal and smooth stay.

  • Explore castles, cities, and landscapes
  • Study in tuition-free public universities
  • High demand for skilled international graduates
  • Attend cultural fests and exhibitions
  • Affordable cost of living for students
  • Travel across Schengen countries with ease

Germany Tourist Visa (Schengen Visa – Type C)

The Germany Tourist Visa, officially a Type C Schengen Visa, allows foreign nationals to visit Germany and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for purposes such as tourism, family visits, or short business trips.

Process

  • Begin by checking if your nationality requires a visa to enter Germany for short stays. Then, fill out the Schengen Visa application form available on the official German Missions website or the service provider (like VFS Global).
  • Gather your required documents including a valid passport (with at least two blank pages and three months’ validity beyond the return date), recent passport-size photographs, round-trip flight bookings, hotel reservations, a cover letter explaining your trip, and travel medical insurance with coverage of at least €30,000.
  • You must also provide proof of sufficient financial means, such as bank statements or sponsorship documents.
  • Schedule an appointment at the German embassy or consulate and attend the interview with all documents.
  • Pay the visa fee, typically €80, and provide biometric data during your appointment.
  • After processing, which usually takes 10–15 working days, your visa will be issued and affixed to your passport.

Germany Student Visa (National Visa – Type D)

The German Student Visa (Type D) is issued to international students planning to study at a recognized German university or language school. It allows you to stay in Germany for the duration of your course and work part-time during studies.

Process

  • First, apply to and secure admission from a recognized German university or preparatory institution and obtain your Letter of Admission (Zulassungsbescheid).
  • Next, open a blocked bank account (Sperrkonto) with a minimum required amount, which is currently around €11,208 per year (as of 2025), to prove financial self-sufficiency.
  • Gather your documents including your valid passport, visa application form, passport-sized photos, admission letter, proof of financial resources, academic transcripts, proof of language proficiency (German or English), health insurance, and a motivation letter.
  • Book an appointment with the German embassy or consulate and attend the visa interview.
  • Submit your documents, pay the visa fee (approximately €75), and provide biometrics.
  • Once your application is approved, you’ll receive a long-term national visa (usually valid for 3–6 months).
  • After arriving in Germany, register your address at the local registration office (Bürgeramt) and then apply for a residence permit at the Foreigners’ Office (Ausländerbehörde) for the full duration of your studies.
