India Tourist Visa (e-Tourist Visa or Regular Visa)

The India Tourist Visa allows foreign nationals to visit India for tourism, sightseeing, visiting friends or relatives, attending short-term yoga programs, or participating in cultural events. It does not permit any business or employment activities.

Process

  • Begin by determining whether you are eligible for an e-Tourist Visa or need to apply for a regular tourist visa through an Indian mission.
  • If eligible for the e-Visa, visit the official Indian government e-visa portal and fill out the online application form with your personal, passport, and travel details.
  • Upload a recent passport-sized photograph and a scanned copy of your passport’s information page.
  • Pay the e-Visa fee online, which varies based on nationality and visa duration.
  • Once processed, usually within 3 to 5 business days, you will receive the Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) by email.
  • Print the ETA and present it upon arrival at any designated Indian airport or seaport, where the visa will be stamped in your passport.
  • If applying through a consulate, you must submit your application, documents, and passport to the nearest Indian Visa Application Centre (IVAC), attend a biometrics appointment if required, and collect your passport once the visa has been processed.

India Student Visa

The Indian Student Visa allows foreign students to pursue full-time education at recognized institutions in India. It is issued for the duration of the course and can be extended based on academic progress.

Process

  • Start by securing admission to a recognized Indian university or educational institution and obtain a formal letter of acceptance.
  • Next, fill out the student visa application form on the official Indian visa portal or at the nearest Indian consulate or Visa Application Centre (IVAC).
  • Gather the required documents including your valid passport, passport-sized photos, admission letter, evidence of financial means to support your study and stay, and proof of accommodation (if available).
  • Submit your completed application along with the visa fee to the Indian mission or IVAC in your country.
  • You may be required to attend a short interview or provide biometric data, depending on local procedures.
  • Once approved, the visa will be stamped in your passport, allowing entry into India for academic purposes.
  • Upon arrival, long-term student visa holders must register with the local Foreigners Regional Registration Office (FRRO) within 14 days of entry and update their details throughout their stay as required.
