Italy Tourist Visa (Schengen Visa – Type C)

The Italy Tourist Visa, also known as a Short-Stay Schengen Visa (Type C), allows foreign nationals to visit Italy and other Schengen countries for up to 90 days within a 180-day period for purposes such as tourism, visiting friends and family, or attending cultural events.

Process

  • Start by checking if your nationality requires a Schengen visa to enter Italy for short-term travel.
  • Then, complete the Italy Schengen visa application form and book an appointment at the nearest Italian Embassy, Consulate, or designated visa application center (such as VFS Global).
  • Gather your required documents including a valid passport (with at least two blank pages and validity for three months beyond return), recent passport-size photographs, round-trip travel bookings, hotel reservations or accommodation proof, and travel medical insurance covering a minimum of €30,000 across the Schengen area.
  • You must also submit proof of sufficient financial means, such as recent bank statements, salary slips, or sponsorship letters.
  • On the day of your appointment, attend the visa interview, submit all documents, pay the visa fee (usually €80), and provide biometric data (fingerprints and photograph).
  • Once submitted, the application is processed in approximately 10 to 15 working days, after which the visa will be stamped in your passport.

Italy Student Visa (National Visa – Type D)

The Italy Student Visa (Type D) is a long-stay visa issued to non-EU citizens planning to undertake full-time studies at a recognized Italian university or institution. It allows residence in Italy for the duration of the academic program.

Process

  • First, apply to and secure admission to an accredited Italian educational institution, then receive your official letter of acceptance.
  • Once admitted, complete the national visa application form and schedule an appointment at the nearest Italian consulate or visa application center.
  • Prepare the required documents including your valid passport, passport-sized photos, acceptance letter from the university, proof of accommodation in Italy, proof of sufficient financial means (minimum €6,000–€8,000 per year), health insurance valid in Italy, and academic records.
  • On the day of the appointment, submit your application, pay the visa fee (approximately €50), and attend the interview.
  • If the visa is approved, it will be issued for a period consistent with the duration of your course, typically up to one year initially.
  • After arrival in Italy, you must apply for a Permesso di Soggiorno (Residence Permit) within 8 days at the local post office and register with the local immigration office.
